Louie Mantia, Jr.

Louie Mantia, Jr. is a Tokyo-based artist and designer. He creates icons, fonts, hanafuda, playing cards, and poker dice.
Since 2015, Louie has run Parakeet with Luka Grafera. He previously designed software at Tapulous, The Iconfactory, Apple, Square, and Pacific Helm.
He started Crown in 2017 for fonts and Junior in 2019 for games.
Louie was born in St. Louis, Missouri and has lived in California, North Carolina, and Oregon, before moving to Japan in 2023.
Junior
The brand was initially conceived as a company to produce board games as iPad apps. Louie officially established Junior in 2019 to create playing cards and games. The name “Junior” is derived from his full name, Louie Mantia, Jr.
In 2019, Louie produced Phoenix, a new interpretation of Japanese hanafuda. In 2020, he added Dragon & Tiger to the Junior Hanafuda lineup. A total of $26,415 was raised via Kickstarter to produce Dragon & Tiger.
In 2021, Louie produced Mage & Fool, two decks of French-suited, Anglo-American playing cards, and Junior Royals, a set of five poker dice. A total of $22,681 was raised via Kickstarter to produce Mage & Fool.
In addition to the design of cards and dice, Louie also writes game instructions for this website, including original games for Junior products.
